Getting your records

Curve Dental

Curve Dental · cloud

A cloud system used in the browser. Each file, image and printout comes out one at a time; there is no bulk copy and no export of perio or treatment history as data.

What to ask for

Send this to the office. It is written for someone who works in Curve Dental every day, so there is nothing for you to translate.

  • Files and Letters: download each file with More Options → Download, including completed forms and any Treatment Plan - Accepted rows.
  • Imaging: right-click each image → Download Original as PNG, or Download All Mount Images for each mount; add Print Image or Print Mount for a page with the name and date.
  • Perio Charting: Print Exam for each exam, with notes, saved as PDF.
  • Notes: Print Notes with all note tags selected, saved as PDF.
  • Charting: Print Chart from a Treatment Plan tab, plus a screenshot of the History list (History has no print button).
  • Lab reports: ask the office where they file lab returns. Curve has no lab tracking or lab case management built in.

Where it is in Curve Dental

Each of these produces one part of the record. The office does not need to do all of them — only the ones you asked for above.

  1. Documents (scans, letters, EOBs, forms, sent treatment plans)

    Path
Sidekick → find the patient → Files and Letters → double-click the folder → on the file’s row, More Options (three dots) → Download. Properties on the same menu shows Type, Size, Created, Created by and Last modified. Needs the Manage Patient Files permission.
    Produces
The stored file. Completed forms are rows named "[Form Name] - [YYYY-MM-DD] [HH:MM].pdf". A treatment plan the office sent is "Treatment plan - [YYYY-MM-DD]"; a signed one is "Treatment Plan - Accepted - [YYYY-MM-DD]" when the office has the Mark Treatment Plans Signed by Patients As Accepted setting on. No bulk copy is documented; download per file.
    Choose
Download, not print. Take the date from Properties → Created if the file name has none.

  2. Images and X-rays (one image)

    Path
Sidekick → patient → Charting → Imaging → right-click the image (in the single image viewer, fullscreen, the Image Gallery or a mount slot) → Download Original (Download Modified includes brightness and contrast edits). If the image opens in a new tab, right-click it → Save image as. Needs the Modify an Image permission.
    Produces
"All x-rays will download as a generic png. or jpeg. file. Once it is downloaded, the file can be renamed." No patient name or date in the file, and annotations are never included. "Curve does not currently offer a way to export images directly to another imaging software or into an email."
    Choose
Download Original, and PNG when offered. Also right-click → Print Image: that makes a PDF with the office, the patient’s name and birthdate, the image, the date taken and the teeth. Keep both.

Curve help: Downloading an image or mount image in the Charting module

  3. Images and X-rays (whole mount)

    Path
Charting → Imaging → open the mount → right-click any image in it (or right-click the mount in the Image Gallery) → Download All Mount Images (pick PNG or JPG if the mount is mixed) → the browser saves a .zip → Extract All. For the series on paper, right-click an image in the mount → Print Mount.
    Produces
A ZIP with one PNG or JPG per mount slot, with no patient name or date in the files. Print Mount previews two pages: "The first page is reserved for clinic and patient information. The second page is the mount with all attached images."
    Choose
Download All Mount Images first; Print Mount for the cover page with the clinic and patient information.

  4. Periodontal chart

    Path
Sidekick → patient → Perio Charting → pick the exam in the Previous perio exams drop-down → Print Exam at the top of the perio chart view → with or without notes → in the browser’s print dialog choose Save as PDF. One exam at a time.
    Produces
A printout of the number chart. "Curve does not currently have any settings for changing the format of how the Perio Chart will print." No CSV or XML perio export exists. The exam’s More Options → Exam properties shows the provider and the created date.
    Choose
Print Exam with notes, saved as PDF, for every exam.

  5. Treatment history

    Path
"The records found in History do not have a print button." Curve’s route: Charting → History → drag the Resize tool so the list shows → take a screenshot (Snipping Tool or Mac Screenshot) → repeat while scrolling. For a dated page of the chart: Charting → right-click a Treatment Plan tab → Print Chart.
    Produces
Screenshots (PNG) of the History list. Print Chart previews the chart with "the patient’s name as well as the date and time the printout was produced", one chart at a time. No per-patient treatment history export exists in Curve.
    Choose
Print Chart saved as PDF, plus the History screenshots for the itemized list.

  6. Clinical notes

    Path
Sidekick → patient → expand Notes → click the selected Categories → in the Note Tags list click All → click elsewhere to close → Print Notes → the notes open in a new tab → printer icon → Save as PDF. One note: right-click it → Print Note. Or a report: More → Reports → Patient Reports → All Notes By Patients → Add Filter → Column → Full Name → Equal To → "Last Name, First Name" → Apply Filters → expand the patient → Print (use the report’s own Print button).
    Produces
A printout of the notes with their dates. Curve Reports have an Export button in the top right; the vendor’s article does not show it on this report, so ask whether it appears.
    Choose
Print Notes with all tags, saved as PDF.

  7. Treatment plans

    Path
Charting → right-click the Treatment Plan tab → Print Treatment Plan → set Treatment plan notes to Show → Print → the plan opens in a new tab → printer icon → Save as PDF. Completed treatment cannot be printed from the Complete area.
    Produces
A printed plan with visits, notes, disclosures and the Treatment Acceptance block (signature, printed name, date). Signed plans are also in Files and Letters as "Treatment Plan - Accepted - [date]" when that setting is on.
    Choose
The Files and Letters copy when the plan was signed; otherwise Print Treatment Plan.

What the office has to ask Curve Dental for

These cannot be exported from the software itself. If you need them, say so early — the vendor is a second queue.

  • A copy of all images or all files in the database: email AccountManagement@CurveDental.com. Curve’s Get My Data export is a text file and "does not contain images or documents".
  • Any image format other than PNG or JPG (no DICOM), or export to another imaging system or to email: not offered.
  • Perio data as CSV or XML: none; Print Exam only.
  • Reprinting a prescription: not possible; prescriptions print once.

You may be able to get some of it yourself

The patient portal shows statements and payments (and forms, until the office moves to New Curve Forms), not clinical notes, images or perio charts; a treatment plan reaches you only when the office sends it.

True of any office

Whatever software they run, these are worth asking for.

  • Documents and scans as PDFs: letters, referrals, treatment plans, consent forms, insurance explanations.
  • Images and X-rays as the original files (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, DICOM), not photographs of a screen or a printout.
  • The periodontal chart as data (XML or CSV) if the software offers it, and as a PDF if not.
  • Treatment history: the list of procedures with dates and codes, exported as data if the software offers it.
  • Lab reports as the PDF the laboratory sent.

Once the office sends the files, drop them into Records in your portal. The record sorts them, and anything it cannot read is kept and flagged rather than dropped.
